Velos 2024.2 Dairy Farming

This Nedap Velos software version contains new and improved functionalities that provide new solutions, add valuable options to existing solutions and further increase the ease of use of Velos.

Nedap FarmControl

Identification

  • Implemented a cosmetic update to the rotary ID monitor page to address an issue where the animal number and feed amount were overlapping on the display.
Now both the animal number and feed amount are clearly visible.

Traffic

  • On the "Settings > Separation rules" page, the separation rules are now distributed across two tabs. The active rules are located under the "Active" tab and the inactive rules under the "History" tab. Active rules include those that, based on the timing settings in the rule, are currently being used to separate animals as well as those that will be used for this purpose at a later date. Inactive rules are those that, based on the timing settings in the rule, will no longer be used to separate any animals and rules that have been deliberately removed. The "History" tab retains the separation rules for 60 days, after which they are permanently deleted.

  • In the images accompanying the previous point, You can see a column "Source". This is a new column that indicates the origin of the separation rule. The source can be one of the following:

    • Velos - if the rule was added on this page.

    • Milk parlour - if the rule was added via a control panel in the milking parlour.

  • The page displaying the separation results, reachable via the separation widget on the dashboard, now also presents the data across two tabs: "Recent" and "History." The "Recent" tab shows the animals that have been separated in the past 48 hours. After 48 hours, these animals are automatically moved to the "History" tab. After 60 days, the animals automatically disappear from the "History" tab. Users have the option to manually move animals to the "History" tab as well. This feature provides a clearer overview of the animals that have just been separated and require immediate attention. On these pages a "Source" column has been added as well. This column indicates the origin of the separation rule. The source can be one of the following

    • Velos - if the rule was added via the Velos user interface.

    • Milk parlour - if the rule was added via a control panel in the milking parlour.

    • Manual - if the animal was separated in manual mode of the sorting unit.

    • "Undefined" - if the separation rule for which the animal was separated has been deleted in the mean time.

  • We have fixed an issue where separation rules were not being removed following the deletion of a production group. This update ensures that all separation rules for this production group are correctly deleted as well.

Heat Detection and Health Monitoring

  • We have improved the clarity of notifications for scheduling events in the calendar on the animal overview page. Previously, if a calendar event was scheduled too far in the future, the message "Event lies in the future" was displayed. Now, the notification specifies "Event is more than 24 hours in the future," providing clearer guidelines that events can be scheduled up to 24 hours in advance.

  • A user interface inconsistency in the 'Farm > Add Animal' section for users logged in with the "demo - view only" role has been addressed. Previously, the 'Add Animal' button was mistakenly enabled for these users, although attempting to add an animal redirected them to a page with the message: 'Oops, This page cannot be found!'. This button is now disabled.

  • We have identified a sporadic issue where SmartTags may occasionally transmit an unusually high minute counter value, significantly deviating from the typical sequence. This deviation impacts the Velos system's current implementation, where minute counters are cached to prevent duplicate data transmission to Nedap Now. Consequently, any new minute counter value lower than the deviating high value was not transmitted, as Velos interpreted it as previously sent data. This issue has been fixed

Nedap MilkingControl

  • Resolved an issue that was causing slow responses when the button on an InTouch was pressed. This issue was delaying the start of the milking process.

  • In Velos 2024.1, an option has been added that allows the cluster to automatically lower after detachment. However, an issue was identified where the InTouch display continued to show 'Start' even though the cluster was already in the lowered position. This has been fixed.

  • In systems that were configured before Velos 2023.4 with the InTouch 'vacuum valve output' set to 'active low', the behaviour of the vacuum valve output will change and no longer function correctly after upgrading to version 2023.4 or later. This has been fixed. However, this issue does not impact milking parlours that were initially set up with version 2023.4 or later. These newer systems have been configured correctly from the beginning to handle the vacuum valve output appropriately.

  • When adding a parlour under 'Settings > Parlour Configuration', a popup message appears to inform users that configuring InTouch devices might take some time. However, this message incorrectly displayed the number of InTouch devices. This issue has now been corrected.

  • The icon of the dashboard widget 'Parlour cleaning' was missing in some cases. Fixed this issue.

  • Our SmartFlow system includes a temperature sensor, but it is not designed to measure milk temperature. Instead, this sensor is specifically used to detect when a cleaning cycle begins on the SmartFlow, where it measures larger temperature differences. Therefore, we have stopped recording this temperature as the milk temperature in milking results, as it does not accurately reflect the milk's temperature.

  • The calibration calculations for the SmartFlow system were time-consuming and impacted the overall system performance. These calculations have been optimized to resolve these issues effectively.

  • Fixed an issue on the Rotor Identification behaviour component's monitor page where the animal number would overlap with an animal's ration when more than 1 feed type is used.

General

  • Nedap constantly updates the software to prevent security vulnerabilities. In this version some 3rd party libraries have been updated because of this. In this version also the Linux environment has been updated to a new version.

  • Velos 2024.1 has been declared the final feature release for several components. As a result, this version (Velos 2024.2), will no longer support these components:

    • VP8001 VPU

    • VP3104 Milking parlour interface

    • VP1101 Antenna reader module

    • VP1910 Antenna reader, I/O module

    • VP5002 V-Scan

    • VP5004 ID-NoteĀ

    • VP6201 V-CamĀ

  • Removed the Mobile-me-QR-code from the footer of the Velos pages.

  • An issue has been resolved in the synchronization process with Nedap Now where switching user numbers and/or responders on animals was not being handled correctly. This fix ensures accurate data alignment when user numbers or responders are updated on animal records.

  • An issue has been fixed where Velos would not synchronize animal and calendar data for a day when the VPU was offline during booting.

Firmware

  • VP1801: v3.10.17

    • New features:

Dual antenna suitable for stand alone mode. The advise is to check the antenna settings after update.
